In order for a point of consumption to change its previous energy supplier, a change of supplier process must take place. In March 2024, Ruling Chamber 6 of the German Federal Network Agency (BNetzA) established in Decision BK6-22-024 to implement the process of changing electricity suppliers within 24 hours as defined in Section 20a of the German Energy Industry Act (EnWG) with entry into force on 1 April 2025.
The changeover period of 24 hours applies from 6 June 2025 at 12:00 am.
These process changes are combined with a restructuring of the business processes for supplying customers with electricity (GPKE) as well as the change processes for metering (WiM) and feed-in locations (MPES). The MPES processes are integrated into the business processes for supplying customers with electricity (GPKE).
According to the current status, the change of supplier for gas will not be affected by the changes in the electricity sector. A 24-hour change of supplier for gas is therefore not currently planned. However, 6 June 2025 will be included in the GPKE/GeLi Gas holiday calendar and the new EDIFACT formats must be used from this date on.
cpX.Energy supports the 24-hour GPKE change of supplier for generating and consuming market locations. The extensive changes to the communication structure have been implemented and will be made available for testing with a lead time of 4 weeks. Cancellation and deregistration requests can be responded to automatically if the master data is correct. We support the new API communication for the identification of the market location (new MaLo identification procedure).
From 6 June 2025, the latest versions of the respective message formats will apply. This date corresponds to the standard procedure for format changes. However, in the case of the 24-hour change of supplier, it will not take place on 1 April as usual, but exceptionally on 6 June 2025.
